Although the dependence on the good old snail mail has greatly reduced in this age of electronic communication, the post office continues to be an important place that connects people separated by geographical distance. MIT VGS, Solapur, conducted a field trip to a post office for the students of pre-primary section on 14th September 2019. A total of 79 students went for this field trip to the post office near the railway station, Solapur. The trip lasted for about 1.5 hours. The objective of the field trip was to get the little ones to know about the basic functioning of a post office and the various ways in which the facilities available therein can be utilized properly. A postal employee guided the students during the tour of the post office and showed them the different sections. He showed them the various types of postcards, stamps, and envelopes and explained the use of each one. He also gave information about things that can be written on a postcard and the procedure of posting a letter. Later, he showed the letterbox where letters are actually posted and gave details about the same. The students were happy to meet the postman and some of them shook hands with him. Students were delighted to receive a chocolate from the head of the post office, who was a very cooperative and graceful lady. The trip was successful in exposing the students to something useful and of practical value.
