International Yoga Day

21 Jun, 2019

The day was celebrated on 21st June 2019 at MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul School (CBSE), Loni by all students, from pre-primary to grade X, in the school auditorium. This was the 5th annual International Yoga Day celebration, in line with the events organized all over the world. The program started with the World Peace Prayer. An enthusiastic Yoga session was conducted by the teachers of the physical education department. The students were introduced to the concept of Yoga, along with its importance for holistic development. Students performed various Yogasanas, pranayam and meditation, under the guidance of teachers.

United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) declared 21st June as International Yoga Day, in 2015, after Shri. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister, India, proposed the same during his UN address. He suggested the date 21st June as it is the summer solstice (longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, where majority of humanity resides), which is culturally significant. Moreover, as per the ancient teachings of India, Adiyogi Lord Shiva (the first Yogi) commenced imparting the Yogic knowledge to the Saptarshis (seven sages) on the second full moon after this day, which is known as Guru Pournima. This year, the theme of the International Yoga Day was “Yoga with Gurus”. Dr. Sandeep Khanna, Principal, talked about the importance of Yoga in terms of physical, mental and spiritual growth, while addressing the students. He encouraged the students to practice Yoga every day for peace, harmony and good health. The program ended with the recitation of the national anthem.
